SIGMA Corporation was founded in 1961 by Michihiro Yamaki in Tokyo, Japan. The company headquarters of the camera and lens manufacturer, which produces exclusively in Japan, is still located there today.
SIGMA’s premium brand strategy is based on the highest possible quality standards. The high-performance lenses in the Contemporary, Art and Sports product categories set new standards in quality and workmanship and underline the high-end performance standards of the Japanese brand.
1979 was founded the establishment of the SIGMA (Deutschland) GmbH branch, today in Rödermark near Frankfurt, which supervises the company’s leading European and one of the world’s most important markets.
In addition to Germany, SIGMA has branches in the USA, Hong Kong and Shanghai (China), Singapore, France, England, Sweden and the Netherlands. Based on the Greek letter Sigma, which in mathematics stands for a total, the company name symbolizes the company’s philosophy. The products, which are 100 percent made in Japan, are the “result” of the highest level of manufacturing art and cutting-edge technology, well-trained expertise and over 60 years of experience in the production and development of cameras and lenses.
In 2018, SIGMA also entered the cine lens sector. Since then, SIGMA has been offering cine lenses which comply with the highest standards in film production and also underline the company’s quality standards.
